The advent of the Kodak Brownie miniature camera revolutionized the still image at the turn of the century. Bringing the means of reproduction to the wide masses, it paved the way for the democratization of graphic communication. The commercial diffusion of cameras such as the Leica, Contax, Rolleiflex, and others created an international community of photography enthusiasts and a subsequent surge in photography magazines to explore the interests of these "minifans".
