Condition: Good. First edition. First edition of an early anthology featuring Texas border poets, including several Mexican American writers, published in 1939 by The Kaleidograph Press. This collection represents works from the Border Poets group, established in 1933 in Kingsville, Texas. This is a rare pre-war literary anthology that included Mexican American writers, including the Border Poets members Joel R. Acevedo, Bertha Christine Acevedo, and Bertha Dominguez. For information on the group, see the Corpus Christi Caller Times, 20 December 1942. Based on census records, Joel Acevedo taught school; he is described as "Mex[ican]" and Bertha Acevedo appears to be Joel's sister. According to the Corpus Christi Times (22 October 1943), Bertha Dominguez moved to Mexico City during the Second World War. 95 pages. First edition. Previous owner's inscription; several text leaves exhibit significant snagged tears, a recurring condition issue noted in the other copy I have had. Spine shows fading and wear. Lacking the dust jacket.
