Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First American edition. Green cloth lettered in white. Spine lettering rubbed away, modest overall wear, a very good copy lacking the dust jacket. Neat ownership signature of Margaret Field Buck on titlepage. Inscribed by the author in pencil, with a line from the text: "To Margaret Field from Compton Mackenzie. 'You needn't give me those perishing looks, young Else' - there's no ink to be got. December, 1912. Toronto Detroit Montreal IIIIII." We do not know the meaning of "IIIIII", possibly referring to the next city on a signing tour he was on?
