Offered is "The Case of the Missing Conscience," the text of a sermon given on October 30, 1960 by the Rev. Stephen H. Fritchman at the First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles and published in mimeographed print form as the November 1960 Sermon of the Month by the First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles. A stapled pamphlet measuring 7" by 8-1/2" and containing 16 pages including front and rear covers. A brief excerpt from the Sermon, reading in short part: "This has been a very disturbing week for your minister, as for many of you, I am sure. The threatened invasion of the Cuban island by counter-revolutionaries has appalled us. I also had the very shattering experience of reading a book by Dr. Harrison Brown, the distinguished geo-chemist of Caltech, entitled 'Community of Fear,' a report on the military build-up for World War III and what are the probable characteristics of the post-war world. I had an experience, reading this, until three in the morning, that was akin to my experiences in Japan: the feeling that modern man is now racing to his destruction, and that an accident is more likely than not to trigger the holocaust, either the mechanical failure of a nuclear weapon or the human failure of a single person or group of persons."
