Original black diced cloth Buchan loose leaf records post-binder, w/ 8.25 in. tall nickel-plate posts, adjustable clasps on front cover, gilt lettering stamped on front cover, rounded corners (patina & minor rusting to front piano hinge, minor edgewear, soiling, edgewear to textblock, occasional price annotations, and corrections), still a VG copy. First edition, thus, substantially revised & augmented, of this stupendous 1930s hardware catalogue, issued at the time by perhaps the largest wholesaler of hard goods on the West Coast. Schwabacher Hardware Company wholesaled nearly every type tool, appliance, household good, building supply, and other goods surpassing in sheer volume nearly all contemporary hardware supply houses. This massive counter display catalogue was designed to be enhanced with additional price lists, supplements, and manufacturers supplements, which are present here and updating the catalogue to the end of 1939 so that the company could stay current with their 1000s of items. Sections include Tires & accessories for automobiles; Hardware & gardening tools; Electrical appliances; Emerson radio and radio accessories; Sporting goods, guns, camping equipment; Wheel goods, bicycles, velocipedes, toy automobiles; Athletic supplies, baseball, football, golf, autographed baseball bats, gloves, and balls, and much more. These sections encompass essentials for logging companies such as loading jacks, sheaves, lubricated bearings, line blocks, and other hardware; as well as supplies for factories and builders such as Yale hoists, fire extinguishers, wire fencing, blacksmithing tools, horse shoes, builders' hardware, paint, roofing, brass tiger padlocks, Stanley garage door hardware, Tegco coloured glass knobs and pulls with chrome metal tops, colour sample page with Nason's paints, varnishes & enamels, and even Allen's Parlor Furnace. In addition, the company offered a whole range Arts & Crafts Andirons, fireplace screens, Viko aluminum roasting pans, Poloron "Woodland" insulated camping jugs, Bissel carpet sweepers, Hamilton-Beach vacuum cleaners, Christmas tree stands, lights, and decorations; skis, skiing equipment, baseball bats, and tennis rackets. Founded by Louis Schwabacher (1837-1900), Abraham Schwabacher (1838-1909), and Sigmund Schwabacher (1841-1917), in Walla Walla, WA in 1860, and then Seattle, WA in 1869 in the Washington Territory, the company would grow and thrive, and became the main outfitter for the Klondike Gold Rush miners. The company's main Seattle store erected in 1906 after a fire, has now been recycled into condominiums and mixed retail/office space. Waller (1901-1968) was a Norwegian-American printer and editor who began as a cataloguer for the Schwabacher Hardware Co. in the late 1920s, and whose father and family members were in advertising and commercial printing for business interests in Seattle. Worldcat locates 1 copy (U of W library, w/o the 2112 pp. of supplements); See: Jean Roth, The Schwabacher Family of Washington State, The Seattle Genealogical Society Bulletin, Summer (1997).
