Collated, complete.A very scarce pamphlet regarding the Popish Plot, a fictitious conspiracy that gripped England and Scotland in anti-Catholic hysteria between the years 1678 and 1681. English priest Titus Oates fabricated the existence of a massive Catholic conspiracy to assassinate King Charles II, which led to the execution of over twenty innocent men.This work begins with the disclaimer that, upon a return from London, the author has been 'almost persuaded [.] that there is no such thing as a plot; and I really do very much question it, or at least as to a Popish one'. This scarce first edition, arranged in the form of a dialogue, purports to be between an 'Old Queen-Elizabeth Protestant and his Country Neighbour', presents the argument for the veracity of the plot, and an opposition to this view.
