Die renommierte Kunsthistorikerin Grete Ring (1887-1952) führte zusammen mit Walther Feilchenfeldt nach dem Tod von Paul Cassirer am 7. Januar 1926 den Verlag bis zu dessen erzwungenen Schließung und Zerschlagung durch die Nationalsozialisten. Feilchenfeldt emigrierte 1933, Ring folgte schließlich 1938. Grete Ring, die bei Heinrich Wölfflin (1864-1945) studiert hatte und eng mit Max J. Friedländer (1867-1958) befreundet war, hatte seit ihrem Eintritt in den Verlag maßgeblichen Einfluss auf die kunstgeschichtlichen Veröffentlichungen: Mit Hadelns Monumentalwerk zu den "Venezianischen Zeichnungen der Renaissance" oder mit Werner Weisbachs (1873-1953) "Der Barock als Kunst der Gegenreformation" (siehe Katalog XXXXX) gelang es dem Verlag, anspruchsvolle Schriften zu publizieren, die heute zu Klassikern der Kunstgeschichte geworden sind.
