Softcover. Condition: Very Good. Exhibition Catalog; A clean, sound copy of this restrospective catalog, with more than 30 color plates and much else besides. Sarah Wilson has written an essay which appears both in French and English, as does the biography at the back. The catalog itself is in French only. Two rather nice poems in English, which were found with the catalog, are included. They may have nothing to do with the artist, but then again, perhaps they do. (There is no indication of the author's identity.) The binding is tight, but there is a little scuffing, especially to the spine. The pages are immaculate.

Charles Lapicque was a French painter known for his brightly coloured depictions of landscapes and figures. Employing fragmented pictorial space, patches of colour, and cursory outlines, Lapicque s style most closely resembled that of Raoul Dufy. Long studies of nature led me to conclude that red, orange and yellow as colours always ready to become lighter, to become brighter, and blue, on the contrary, as a colour is inevitably destined to darken, he once explained. A heavy book, may need extra postage.
