Hardcover in light grey cloth with black titles to spine, black front cover with white titles and hand illustration. 8vo. - over 7¾ in. - 9¾ in., 178pp. Mild shelfwear, minor soiling to spine and rear cover, binding lightly starting at a few points yet binding and text block remain solid and strong, owner name to ffep, interior text clean. Good copy.

White pictorial cloth with reverse white lettering and hand design on front cover, no dustjacket, likely as issued. Covers uniformly rubbed with some darkening to the white background, edgewear, front hinge internally repaired and secure, text block sound, pages clean, name neatly written on the front free endpaper, no other markings. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Black boards, rubbed/worn, illustration of hand and white? titling to front cover, titling to spine almost disappeared, extremities rubbed, corners and head/tail of spine bumped. "Illustrative plates of the 7 types, and drawings of the lines, marks, and mounts of the hand." Black and white frontispiece. No date, but Name/writing on front e/p dated 1999. Printed on cheap paper. 128pp plus appendix at end of book. Pages browning with age. Illustrated in black and white. Overall CLEAN TIGHT AND BRIGHT. ; 004510; 8vo.

Pictorial boards. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: No dj. third edition. Smaller size than the 1900 original by a different publisher and scarce thus. The front panel has the hand of gladstone in imprint, black blocked plate on cream background. The Boards are very shelfworn and the spine hinges are worn through, holding on just. Binding sound inside though, and this is a smaller version than we believe the original to be. Missing frontis plate, and plate VI is very ragged and loose from the book. Of remaining 7 plates all are bound in and in good order if a little loose at the hinge here and there. 139pp+10pp appendix + advert section. Size: 12mo.

Page xi is discoloured from contact with a newspaper clipping. Some plates are torn at the inner margin. Hinges are significantly cracked and torn, holding on by the mull. Previous owner's markings on the ffep. Page edges are darkened and smudged. Bound in grey and black cloth with black titles. Worn around the edges. Darkened on the spine. Heavily scuffed and stained on the boards. SCARCE. FAIR. Book.
