Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 8vo. Soft cover. 216 pp. Fine condition. For this new edition, first published in 1971, Ted Hughes augmented his original selection of Shakespeare's poems and dramatic speeches and completely rewrote his accompanying essay, intending to restore to the common reader much of what, in Shakespeare, was instinctively available to the audience of his day, and to show how Shakespeare's language unites in its sinews and substance the full range of Elizabethan preoccupations: philosophical and social.

New revised edition of a book originally published in 1971. Octavo. pp viii, 216. Wrappers - there seems not to have been a hardbound issue.Presentation copy from the author, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: ''For Frieda with love from Daddy - 7th November 1991''. The recipient is his daughter. Frieda's other parent was of course Sylvia Plath. On the same page Hughes has also written ''Number 1/5'' which suggests this was one of the complimentary copies supplied to him by the publishers. It also makes this the de facto smallest limited edition of any of his books.Fine.
