Sq octavo 22x19.5 cm., wrappers, (12) pp. (What We re Building) A rare Soviet school textbook, an exercise book in pictures was propaganda designed to introduce youths to industry, agriculture, and nature resources of the USSR under construction during the Five-Year Plan of Stalin. Space is provided for children to write in their answers to questions about their future careers, knowledge of factories and machinery. A scored map of Russia invites students to identify the industrial centers of the country. Author L Savel ev (Leonid Lipavski 1904-1941) was a poet and a co-founder of the OBERIU writers group. The book artist Vladimir Aleksandrovich Tambi (1906-1955) is recognized for his major contribution to children s literature. OCLC locates five holdings in North America. Very good+.
