C'est Théodore Dézamy (1808-1850) qui, parmi les Français, a été le plus loin à cette époque dans l'élaboration d'une doctrine communiste. Ancien instituteur de Vendée, surveillant de pension à Paris, il devient le secrétaire de Cabet dont il s'éloigne en raison de la religiosité de ce dernier. Dans la Sainte famille, Marx écrit de Dézamy qu'il a « développé la doctrine du matérialisme en tant que doctrine de l'humanisme réel et comme à la base logique du communisme ». Dézamy pose comme base de toute organisation sociale les six principes suivants : le Bonheur, la Liberté, l'Egalité, la Fraternité, l'Unité et la Communauté qui est le mode d'association le plus naturel, le plus simple et le plus parfait.
