Goldie Laden was an advocate for the poor, and developed her Plan in order to right what she perceived as an inherent wrong in modern society: "The most heinous crime in America is our needless poverty in the midst of plenty . When the home-makers are given the consuming-power, and the men the productive industrial work, our important social and economic problems are solved" (p. [2]). Gender roles were at the heart of her Plan; women, she argued, should receive a base salary of $75 from the government for performing domestic work while men worked outside the house. Further, she argues that "no person be allowed to retain more than $100,000 per year", and that all wages and prices should be stabilized by the government.
