On 28 Nov Shaw wrote to him from Constantinople acknowledging receipt of "your subtle explanation of the Devil's Disciple's assurance to the lady that he didn't love her. Of course you were quite wrong." [See Shaw correspondence file for 1889. Original ALS is at Princeton.] Pages 622 and 629 marked in red ink. Volume 2: (1995) Laurence in red ink wrote "Marked Copy" Some pages of the text and index have the editor's comments or markings in pencil or red ink. Volume 3: (1997) Editor notes "Marked Copy." However, the text is unmarked except for one entry in the index with page number corrected in red ink. Laid in is a single typewritten sheet, folded in half, entitled Unresolved Annotations referring to 18 pages in the text.
