Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Ten volumes, of eleven (lacking volume III). Limited edition of 750, of which this is copy number1. A unique set -- a bound-in page at the front of volume I states, "This set. has been especially bound for Marie C. Boggs and is the only set to be issued in this style". The signed (Riverside Press) binding is full green leather, beautifully decorated in gilt on the spine and front and rear covers. Top page edges are gilt. Lovely gilt decorated leather doublures with dentelles and Marie Boggs' name set in gilt. In addition, there is at the front of each volume a tipped in note/short letter handwritten and signed by Longfellow -- so ten of these in all, with each letter/note being original and unique. Very Good. Some (modest) degree of rubbing/wear along the edges of the spines, largely confined to the tips. Volume IX is in Good condition only, due to a moderate, but persistent dampstain affecting much of the first half of the book, with a bit of bowing to the front board as well. Overall, a lovely one of a kind set, albeit lacking the third volume. Signed by Author(s).
