Cet ouvrage a paru pour la première fois en 1779. Jacques Daran (1701-1784), chirurgi…en militaire reconnu pour son traitement des maladies génito-urinaires, révèle ici la compostions des bougies emplastiques et médicamenteuses, qui lui permirent de guérir avec succès les rétrécissements de l'urètre, et explique la manière de s'en servir. L'ouvrage comporte aussi un certain nombre de lettres qui attestent l'efficacité de ce remède. La planche dépliante gravée en taille-douce illustre l'Addition finale, qui décrit un trocart courbe mis au point en 1751 pour la ponction de la vessie par l'hypogastre. Plusieurs impressions de 1783 ont été publiées la même année, toutes avec mention de "troisième édition" : elles se distinguent par des adresses ou des paginations différentes; outre celle-ci, une a été publiée à l'adresse de Didot seule, l'autre à Besançon à compte d'auteur.
