Condition: Good. 0. Cm. 14, pp. 167 (1). Legatura antica in cartonato ricoperto da bella carta decorata d'epoca con titoli manoscritti lungo il dorso; tagli spruzzati. Carta di guardia anteriore assente. Trascurabili segni del tempo alla legatura, peraltro esemplare nel complesso fresco e ben conservato, caratterizzato da carte nitide. Interessantissimo libro di segreti di chimica finalizzati nella fattispecie alla realizzazione di colori, vernici, inchiostri, ricette per lacche (lacca di Fra' Galgario), saponi, polvere da sparo, fuochi d'artificio, dettagli per l'incisione su rame, ricette alchemiche per la cura delle malattie, etc. L'autore , celato dietro lo pseudonimo di âGalipido Tallierâ â" sarebbe Padre Albertoli, un domenicano bolognese. Egli sintetizzava, un po' semplificandolo, un genere letterario cinquecentesco, una sorta di letteratura tecnico-scientifica a larga diffusione, i libri dei Segreti, ricettari ad amplissimo spettro che spaziavano dalla medicina alla siderurgia. Padre Albertoli ha scelto probabilmente fin dal titolo un doppio livello, un primo che stupisce gli ingenui e fa sorridere compiaciuti i lettori più avanzati, fatto di ricette che al suo tempo sono volut mente paradossali, un secondo dove si riassumono pratiche correnti di uso domestico e si illustrano a fini didascalici le attività artigiane. Questi aspetti coinvolgono trasversalmente anche i pratici. Rarissima prima edizione di un'opera stampata fino alla prima metà dell'Ottocento. Lo stampatore e tipografo arcivescovile Giuseppe Longhi (1620-1691), fu attivo a Bologna dal 1650 al 1691, anno in cuì morì. Cfr. Rilegato. Condition: molto buono. In-4 antico (mm. 215x160), pp. (8), 212, (20). Insegna araldica xilogr. al front. (arma di F. Rucellai, dedicatario dell'opera). A c. z2-verso iniziano i "Quesiti militari del capitan Gerolamo Fiammelli" (padre dell'autore e reduce della battaglia di Lepanto), che Giovanni Francesco volse nella lingua italiana. Legat. in piena perg. coeva floscia, titolo calligrafato al dorso in carattere semi-gotico. Edizione originale di opera che lo Sticca pose "fra i modelli dei trattati militari accanto a quelli del Tartaglia". L'autore, fiorentino (1565-1613), si distinse nelle guerre di Fiandra agli ordini di Alessandro Farnese. Intorno al 1606 si ritirò a Padova, dove insegnò privatamente meccanica e fortificazione. Non si ha più notizia di lui dopo il 1613, né si hanno notizie di due opere sue, "Commento sopra i problemi di Euclide" e de "La Ragion di Stato", che egli annuncia come prossime alle stampe al capitolo ottavo dei nostri "Quesiti".
