Very Good condition, but lacking a dust jacket. No marks or writing to the book. La Question (French for "The question") is a book by Henri Alleg, published in 1958. It is famous for describing the methods of torture used by the French military during the Algerian War. The narrative is from the point of view of a victim. He wrote the autobiographical account in the Barberousse Prison of Algiers. Alleg smuggled out the pages with the help of his lawyers. Published originally by Editions de Minuit, La Question was censored after selling 60,000 copies in two weeks. Henri Alleg was formerly editor of the newspaper Alger Républicain; he went underground when its publication was banned. The resulting interrogation aimed at identifying the people who had supported him, and whom Alleg was determined to protect. It further resulted in the search and confiscation of materials in the prison, such as the journals of Baya Hocine.
