Buon esemplare. Rara edizione priva del nome dell'autore (che è l'abate Gudver, curato di St. Pierre le Vieil a Laon), del luogo di stampa e dell'editore della traduzione francese della bolla Unigenitus, emanata da Clemente XI nel 1713 a condanna del Nouveau Testament del Quesnel. La bolla è fittamente commentata dal Gudver, al quale si deve anche l'avvertenza preliminare, apologetica nei confronti di Quesnel e fieramente critica nei confronti della bolla stessa. L'edizione originale della presente opera è del 1733. Pasquier Quesnel, detto in latino Paschasius, (Parigi, 1634-Amsterdam, 1719) fu uno dei più noti teologi giansenisti del suo tempo, effettivo capo del movimento giansenista dopo la morte di Arnauld. Addottoratosi alla Sorbonne, entrò nel 1657 nella Congregazione dell'Oratorio. Il suo deciso Giansenismo fu evidente già nella sua edizione delle opere di Leone Magno del 1675, repentinamente posta all'Indice per l'eterodossia di alcuni dubbi circa l'autorità pontificia, e che gli valse l'allontanamento dal proprio ordine religioso, e ne Le Nouveau Testament del 1687, sforzo di ripensamento dei testi neotestamentari alla luce del credo di Giansenio, di cui la bolla Unigenitus, emanata nel 1713, condannò come eretiche ben 101 proposizioni. Raggiunto Arnauld a Bruxelles, venne fatto arrestare da Filippo V di Spagna nel 1703, ma, qualche mese dopo, riuscì ad evadere e a riparare in Olanda, dove fu raggiunto dalla scomunica dell'arcivescovo di Malines. The first work is structured unusually, with occasional two column segments, and marginalia spread throughout. Three manuscripts bound into one in octavo, 160, 128, 152 pages On note of condition, this manuscript is in good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, and some splitting to the front hinge. There is some foxing throughout.
