Pages are all intact but have some discoloration on some of the pages. 24 full page illustrations at rear of book. Has the signature of the former owner in very old cursive "Stephen P. Rodgers April 18, 1831". Another indiscernible name in cursive on the next blank page with a date of February 8, 1828. Front cover is almost detached from book. Adapted to the comprehension of young pupils and illustrated with plates by the author of "Conversations on Chemistry" and "Conversations on Political Economy." This edition improved by appropriate questions for the examination of scholars and by illustrative notes and a dictionary of philosophical terms. Illustrated with 24 detailed scientific b/w lithographs, incl. frontispiece. Contains a comprehensive dictionary of philosophical terms at rear. Binding with wear along edges, corners and scuffed. Spine creased, small tears at top and one inch chip missing at tail. Endpapers stained, some pencil and inked notes and reinforced with library tape at joint. Moderate foxing throughout, including plates. Though foxed motifs of plates clearly decernible. Plate v missing 2" at bottom. Plate vii and viii with tears, visuals intact. Library tape reinforced between plates ii and iii. A few penciled notes and a drawing on blank versos of three plates. Binding and interior in overall fair condition.

A very good copy bound in full calf, flat spine ruled in gilt, black morocco spine label gilt, previous owner's name on front endpapers dated 1845 and name stamped on covers, some off-setting to title page, some occasional toning to leaves but mostly clean.
