Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. 8vo. Teal green cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xii, 333pp. Near fine/very good. Jacket mildly edgeworn, with several neat archival mends on verso. Attractive and tight first edition of this collection of interviews with the popular Chicago novelist -- and an intriguing association copy, for th…e author boldly inscribes and signs in blue ballpoint on front flyleaf "For Ogden Nash -- / With regards -- / HEF Donohue / 10/15/64." Nash (1902-71) was the American poet who authored a massive quantity of the most humorous verse to grace the English language. BRUCCOLI A 10.

Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. 8vo. Teal green cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xii, 333pp. Near fine/good plus. One front board corner bumped; large chip to jacket rear panel and couple other smaller ones. Attractive, quite tight first edition of this collection of interviews with the popular Chicago novelist. Interestingly,… this was Donohue's personal copy, with amusing long signed inscription and directions in black ink on front flyleaf: "Shag's lending copy: / Please return to him -- / HEF / 10003 / Sometime in 1980" -- and further down: "Now hear this: / Burt's lending copy. / Please return to him. / Shag Donohue / 4/6/83 / 11:45 p.m. / Return to Himself." Most unusual copy. BRUCCOLI A 10.

Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. 8vo. Teal green cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xii, 333pp. Good plus/good plus. Inoffensive irregular dampstain to bottom couple inches of binding and jacket, though text block largely untouched; jacket faintly edgeworn and rubbed, with spine a bit darkened. Decent first edition of this collec…tion of interviews with the popular Chicago novelist. On the front flyleaf, both interviewer and subject sign in black fineline. Donohue inscribes it "For Burt -- / -- Shag / HEF Donohue / @ Strand Books / NYC / 8/25/75," and beneath this much bolder Algren also signs, dating it "NYC Oct. 75" and adding his trademark seated cat sketch. Copies of this title signed by Donohue are occasionally seen and copies signed by Algren once in a great while, but this is the first example we have encountered signed by both. Despite condition, a fairly attractive example and most unusual. BRUCCOLI A 10.

Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. 8vo. Teal green cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xii, 333pp. Near fine/very good. Jacket faintly edgeworn. Superb, tight first edition of this collection of interviews with the popular Chicago novelist. On the front flyleaf, the subject inscribes and signs large and bold in black marker: "For /…Gene and Phil / from / Nelson Algren / 5 Nov. 1975," and he sketches his trademark back side of a seated cat. Philip L. Gerber (1923-2005) -- "Gene" was his wife Eugenia -- was a noted English professor at the State University of New York at Brockport and author of several academic titles, including studies of Theodore Dreiser and Willa Cather in the popular "Twayne's United States Authors Series." Copies of this title signed by interviewer Donohue are occasionally seen, but copies signed by the subject are scarce. BRUCCOLI A 10.
