Ante esta ola prohibicionista, el filósofo francés Francis Wolff propone en este libro una defensa del mundo taurino. Y lo hace manejando argumentos paradójicamente en línea con los de quiénes suponen que hacen un bien suprimiendo las corridas de toros. Wolff no ataca los motivos de esta movilización prohibicionista y cree que su fundamento es generoso. Pero alega que este mismo movimiento no tiene en cuenta los riesgos ni contradicciones que pregona la "pretendida liberación animal" frente a la cultura humanista, entre otros, los perniciosos efectos ecológicos de la prohibición. Además le achaca un profundo desconocimiento de los valores y de todo aquello que surge de la tauromaquia. Si sólo fuera por el magnífico espectáculo de las corridas, no habría tantas excusas para evitar su supresión.
