Contact seller5-star sellerMap. First Edition; First Printing. Prepared for Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War. December, 1863. Large original hand-colored engraved map titled "Map of the Southern States, Including Rail Roads, County Towns, State Capitals, County Roads, the Southern Coast from Delaware to Texas, Showing the Harbors, Inlets, Forts… and Position of Blockading Ships." Published for Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War, December 1863. An impressive Civil War map illustrating the Confederate States and adjacent border regions at a pivotal stage of the conflict. The map details railroad networks, county and state boundaries, roads, towns, forts, harbors, inlets, and the Union naval blockade along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, highlighting the strategic geography that shaped military operations during the war. Decorative engraved portraits of Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Winfield Scott, and George B. McClellan adorn the corners, while an inset map of southern Florida appears at lower right. Original outline hand-coloring distinguishes the individual states and territories. Professionally matted and housed in an attractive hardwood frame. A striking display piece that combines historical significance with exceptional visual appeal, ideal for collectors of Civil War memorabilia, Americana, and nineteenth-century cartography. Condition: Very Good. Light age toning and a few unobtrusive fold lines consistent with the map's original issue. Framed under glass. The frame displays light wear commensurate with age but presents handsomely.
