Softcover. Condition: Very Good. Inscribed by Author. As the macabre al-Qaeda attacks of 11 September 2001 on the United States illustrate, suicidal terrorism constitutes an enigmatic form of violence in which a fighter's certain death is a precondition for the execution of an attack. The apparent willingness of suicide bombers to die in order to execute their bombing attacks, the relative ease of adjusting tactics in order to pinpoint targets, and the modest cost of implementing such attacks underscore the serious threats that suicide bombers pose to national and global security. In Iraq, for example, 200 coalition soldiers and 12,284 Iraqi civilians were killed from 2003 to 2010. In the same period 30,644 Iraqi civilians and 8023 coalition soldiers were injured. Deaths and injuries are not the only consequences of suicidal terrorism. Loss of security and well being, psychological illness as well as loss of social cohesion affect a far greater proportion of the population and significantly impede health advancement and socio-economic development. Using social explanation and synthetic analysis techniques, this book explores the multifaceted links between suicidal terrorism and public health, discusses a framework for understanding motivations of suicidal terrorists and highlights the public health consequences of suicidal terrorism. It also proposes interventions to reduce the occurrence of suicidal terrorism and enhance multidisciplinary response to this global threat. 164 pages. Quantity Available: 1. Condition: New. Other than the author's inscription, this is a tight and unmarked copy." Cruising for Cowards brings one of the most popular reference books for cruising sailors in a current expanded form, an invaluable resource for both veterans and newcomers to cruising life, whether coastal or offshore. Buying a new boat? Have equipment or provisioning concerns? Feel ambivalent about boating? Cruising for Cowards is packed with practical, current information from experienced cruisers. It includes design and construction criteria, electronics and communications choices, and electrical information. It gives equipment and maintenance suggestions for on deck and below; provisioning and health suggestions; safety at sea and security information; route planning and weather, tips for arrival and travel ashore; information for children and pets; and much more that will make cruising for all on board a guaranteed success. Circumnavigator Liza Copeland grew up racing in the UK, ran charter boats in the Caribbean and now lives in Vancouver, BC. A former educational psychologist, she is now a full-time writer. She has written four best-selling cruising books about her family travels around the world and North and Central America, along with Cruising for Cowards, co-authored with her husband Andy, a realistic text for coastal as well as offshore cruisers. She contributes to a variety of magazines and is a seminar speaker at major boat shows in the UK, US, and Canada. The Copeland's Beneteau Bagheera has now logged 123,000 to 114 countries, with most recent miles spent enjoying the Canadian and US Pacific Northwest and Alaska.".
