The first volume of The Levant Trilogy, originally published in 1977, and continuing her Fortunes of War series after the Balkan Trilogy. Having fled a Europe overrun by Hitler, Guy and Harriet Pringle live a precarious existence in Cairo. They meet the young officer Simon Boulderstone, and all three must grapple with disillusionment and isolation, heightened by the uncertainties of war. Condition: The book is in very good condition, with a little light dusting to the pages' top edge, minor sunning to the boards' edges, and some light blotchiness to the prelims.
