Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This is a UK hardcover published by Frederick Warne & Co in 1885. I believe this to be a first edition based on research online and information provided by the New York Public Library internet archive. The photos show the condition better than I can describe, however overall I am grading as Near Fine condition. The book has a straight spine, with sharp corners and softened spine ends. The boards are bright and intact without rubbing. The page edges are gilt edged and whilst there some toning to the end papers, the text block is clean and tight. There is no publication date in the book but as I said - research indicates this is the first edition. *** UPDATE: Big thanks to Donnel Stern who reached out with this information, which I have cut and pasted to assist interested parties: "My understanding is that this book was simultaneously first published by Warne in the UK and Houghton Mifflin in the US, in 1885. I have a copy of the Houghton Mifflin edition. The copyright page says, "Copyright 1884 and 1885 by the Century Company and 1885 by Ticknor." These dates, I believe, refer to the previous serialization of the story in St. Nicholas, the magazine for children that first printed this text. There is no publication date on my copy, like yours. I believe mine and yours are both first printings. When I came across your listing, I just thought I'd share the information with you2.
