SIGNED by Gallagher with a lengthy inscription on the title page: "To Polly - Hope you will enjoy not only these poems, but Alfredo's amazing image…on the cover! Looking forward to Oysterville. Very best wishes, Tess 10/5/06." This inscription sheds some light on the other, non-authorial inscription above, which reads: "For Polly with [heart drawing], Alfredo." Alfredo Arrequin, a Mexican-American painter, did the cover illustration for this book. Through some triangulation and basic internet searching, it seems that Polly is Polly Friedlander, the Founder of the Espy Foundation, which supports an artist retreat in Oysterville, WA, notably near Port Angeles, where Gallagher lived at the time of writing.
