Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Faults: No dust jacket (as issued), boards lightly soiled, spine ends lightly bumped, loose title page secured with cloth document tape, ditto for rear fly page. Owner's signature on title page, pages toned due to age, gilt page ends have lost some color. Otherwise, square spine strong binding, clean pages. Georges Ohnet was a highly popular and prolific author in the late 19th century, known for his melodramatic "Bourgeois" novels that often-explored themes of honor, social status, and intense personal conflict. This is a prime example of his style, which frequently pitted aristocratic values against the rising middle class. Very rare.
