Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: very good. First American Edition, 1st Printing. Large quarto, [16], 126, [12]pp., illustrated. A very good copy in a dust jacket with a 1/2 inch small hole in front panel along with 1/2 inch abrasion at the corner of the front panel. Faint stain on fore-edge of front panel of jacket not affecting the board. Spine tanned, front inner hinge starting after page 2 of introduction, Bad fray to the spine head.Inscribed by Cartier-Bresson in French on the title page "Peter Pollack en souvenir d' une tres interesante conversation H Cartier-Bresson." Pollack was a well respected museum curator and photographer. Laid in is an invitation to a members' only preview of a Cartier-Bresson exhibition and lecture at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts; the lecture is titled "Forbears and Heirs of Cartier-Bresson by Peter Pollack, Honorary Advisor in Photography to the Worcester Art Museum" [therecipient of the inscription]. Non-authorial inscription on the front panel "To my true friend Pete from Dan (Christmas 1952)." We presume Dan gifted the book to Peter Pollack, who then had it signed after his lecture. Additionally laid in is a 9 page quarto folder "Decisive Moment Captions" describing each photo in the text. Perhaps the photographer's most important book; quite uncommon signed.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. First edition, Simon and Schuster, New York, 1952. Complete with rare dust jacket and captions booklet as pictured. Inscribed and signed "Pour Mary- Henri". I have been unable to definitively say who "Mary" is. The book is in very good condition. There is an approximately three quarter inch loss to the top of the spine of the book. The binding remains solid. There is the very slightest of toning to the page edges only. The text bock and photographs are absolutely clean and unmarked. This book was obviously very carefully read. Includes The Decisive Moment captions booklet as pictured. The boards are clean with a very, very slight bowing to the front edge as pictured. Moderate toning to the spine. The dust jacket is Good+, intact, with some staining throughout the top quarter of the front and staining along the edge of the front near the spine. Moderate sunning again to the spine and missing a ¾ inch portion at the top. I have several additional photographs available upon request. Signed by Author(s).
