During the French Revolution, Britain was drawn into the conflict along with many other continental countries in what became know as the War of the First Coalition [1792 -7]. Following this, foreigners [aliens] had to apply for permissi…on to reside in Britain and were issued with a provisional licence. Here we have unused copies of both the Declaration [in English and French] and the Provisional Licence which was valid for one month.
