Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. London: Macgibbon & Kee, (1957). First edition, first printing. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper, designed and illustrated by Eduardo Paolozzi, is bright and in very good condition. The spine features light marks but remains bright and clear. It has not been price clipped (18s. net). The boards are free from chips and marks. The text blocks are bright and white throughout, with very minimal foxing present. Accompanied by a TLS from Tom Maschler (on Jonathan Cape headed paper and with accompanying envelope), a fantastic postcard handwritten by John Wain and TLS from Colin Wilson (on his headed paper and with accompanying envelope). This is a fine archive of letters, all hand signed by their respective authors, each of whom contribute to articles in this legendary collection of declarations. An anthology of essays by British writers. It features short essays by Doris Lessing, Colin Wilson, John Osborne, John Wain, Kenneth Tynan, Bill Hopkins, Lindsay Anderson and Stuart Holroyd. The book is closely associated with the Angry Young Men 'movement', and the essays are presented as 'credos' or manifesto of the writers. Signed by Author(s).
