[NEW MEXICO]. First edition. 8vo. Limited to 20 numbered and signed copies by the editor of which this number 12. Two-tone quarter leather and cloth, titles stamped in gold gilt on the spine, raised bands, xvii [blank], 317 pp., editor's introduction, acknowledgments, editorial note, preface, illustrated, portraits, notes, references, index. "Cowboy and drifter Frank Clifford lived a lot of lives and raised a lot of hell in the first quarter of his life. He spent the rest of it keeping a lid on what those lives were and where that hell-raising had occurred." He tells of crossing the paths of many of the 1870s and 1880s notorious characters, most notably Clay Allison and Billy the Kid. He also paints a picture of how ranchers and ordinary folk lived, worked and stayed alive during those years. Bob McCubbin says "One hundred and thirty years after the death of Billy the Kid, it is rare for an account to appear that is fresh and authentic. Yet this book is even more than that. Salvaged from a lost manuscript, *DEEP TRAILS IN THE OLD WEST* is a genuine tale told by a down-to-earth wandering cowboy of the Old West." Affixed to the verso of the last page in the book is a label that says: *"This limited special bound, untrimmed, slipcased, deluxe first edition has been prepared for discriminating collectors by Robert G. McCubbin."* The label is signed by Bob McCubbin. As new, unread copy housed in the original cloth slipcase.
