    Loose leaf portfolio. Condition: vg to fine. Inscribed on inside front cover "Ein Gruß der Heimat! Weihnachten 1949. Thomas." With original letter on Thomas Dehler's personal letterhead to his brother Hans, congratulating to his 71th birthday, dated 30. Mai 1964 and in personalized envelope. Thomas Dehler was a German politician and the Federal Republic of Germany's first Minister of Justice from 19491953 and chairman of the Free Democratic Party from 19541957. Dehler had studied law and politics, graduating in 1920 and 1923. In 1923 he became the cofounder of the anti-Semitic student fraternity "Südmark-Monachia" in Munich. He married the Jewish Irma Frank in 1925. Resisting the pressure of the Nazis to divorce his wife he was arrested in 1938 and 1944 and sentenced to forced labor, but released from duty after four weeks. Quarto. 20 plates. Original string-ties portfolio in three-quarter cloth over decorative paper-covered boards, with photograph laid to debossed square on cover, framed and with lettering in brown. Privately printed portfolio with twenty heavy stock plates and b/w photographs (6 3/4 x 4 3/4") tipped on, with inked frame, calligraphic descriptors and signed "aki" (A. Kirschbaum) in right corner below ink frame. The photographs depict Lichtenfels landmarks, e.g. the Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, the Banz Castle, a former Benedictine monastery, and idyllic scenes of the surrounding area. The first photo contains unidentified stamp "echte a.i fotos, Heimat." on verso. Protected by modern mylar. Light wear along folds of flaps. Plates with light age-toning, photographs fine.

Mit einer 7-zeiligen Widmung des Herausgebers (und namhaften Schriftstellers) Ebermayers für den später berühmten Politiker Thomas Dehler (1897-1967) auf dem Vorsatz (signiert), datiert "Juni 49". Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war Dehler noch Mitglied des Parlamentarischen Rates, ein Vierteljahr später der erste Justizminister der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Beide müssen sich schon deswegen gut gekannt haben wegen der jeweiligen Karieren als Jurist sowie durch den Bezug auf Bamberg. 1.-5. Tausend. Druck in Antiqua (lateinischen Lettern). Einband mit minimalen Gebrauchsspuren, Rücken geringfügig nachgedunkelt und andeutungsweise fleckig, Ecken andeutungsweise berieben, Papier leicht gebräunt, Buchblock sauber (also ohne Unterstreichungen & Randglossen).
