Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Uncommon volume containing the memoirs of Vicki Baum, the Austrian writer, here in hardcover, first printing with 1 on the copyright page. Generally this copy is well kept, with a couple of exceptions, most notably the corner is clipped at the half title page…(which also has left the following page a bit toned), and there is a private ownership stamp on the front free endpaper as well as the next two pages, and a penned note proclaiming place and date of purchase. Other than that, interior is clean and free of marks or damages. The binding is solid and sturdy. Cloth boards clean and firm, with decorated gilt bright and legible. Dustjacket well intact, corner price clip to the front flap, which also has some toning about the edges. A couple of small tears and nicks to the jacket, front and back. A bit of offset toning on the back panel, with some minor scuffing mainly on the back panel but also elsewhere. Small black scuff on the front panel towards the top edge - still sharp, now in brodart. A very decent overall copy.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Very Good dj. First Edition. (price-clipped) [moderate shelfwear, light foxing to bottom edge of text block, one-time owner's name (in pencil) at top of half-title page; the jacket is a little worn along the top and bottom edges, with some minor paper loss at the top of the spine, a bit of light… soiling]. (B&W photographs) Posthumously-published memoir by the Vienna-born author of "Grand Hotel," but who (per the jacket blurb) "emerges from this autobiography [as] no mere one-title author." (I'll say! She wrote more than fifty books, and a couple dozen movies were adapted from her novels and stories. She herself worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s, with intermittent sucess.) "Immensely vital, completely charming, completely winning, a woman of courage and wit, she was part of an exciting, always challenging era.". Illustrated by (dj design) Milton Charles (illustrator).
