Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First. This is the European copyright edition of this classic work by Trollope. Tauchnitz was a German publisher who published several thousand English and American titles from the early Victorian days until WWII. Its publications were produced to establish authors' copyrights for the works before there were international copyright agreements in place. Because the books were all in English, and not in German or other European languages, sales on the continent were relatively small. Doctor Thorne is the third novel in Trollope's Barchester series, but is effectively a stand-alone story on its own. It is generally considered one of Trollope's best works. This copy is very good in contemporary 1/2 leather on marbled boards, with gilt title and ruled bands on the spine. Moderate scuffing and wear to covers. The binding is quite sound. Ex-library. There is the label of a hospital library affixed to the front pastedown but no other library markings. Minor ink scratches on the rear pastedown, but no other marks or damage to the text at all.
