"The People of the State of New-York, by the Grace of God, Free and Independent: To All to Whom these Presents Shall Come, Greeting: Know ye, that we have nominated, constituted, and appointed, and by these presents do nominate, constitute, and appoint Robert Ray of our City of New York Esquire, a Public Notary in and for our State of New York." DeWitt Clinton (1769 -1828) played a major role in the construction of the Erie Canal. Very good, scattered soiling, light ink bleed, contents sharp.

In part ".We have appointed and constituted, and by these Presents, Do appoint and constitute Philip H. Ruckhoub, Captain in the 21st Regiment of Infantry of our said state.".
