After working with the Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT) to establish cross country mail and passenger service, Lindbergh joined forces with Pan-American Airways to develop air service to the Carribean and Central and South America. This first air mail flight from the Canal Zone to the U.S. took place on May 1, 1930. This document is Lindbergh¿s manifest (indicating he is carrying mail in the ballast) for the outgoing flight six days earlier. Lindbergh (1902-74), American pioneer aviator; first solo transatlantic flight (May 20-21, 1927); later consultant to Ford Motors, air carriers and Department of Defense; won Pulitzer Prize for his autobiography (1953).
