Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Full leather with three stained panels - red, gold and black - on spine with bright gilt lettering in boxes and lined rulings separating panels. Binding is tight with rear cover tight to text block but front cover is detached and spine cover is slightly loose. Some minor scuffing to title boxes on spine. Stamped on 2 of the maps indicate the book was part of the Wesleyan Library but there is no other markings in the front or rear. 187 pp and 34 fold-out map plates. Maps are all in fantastic condition, with several of them having multiple folds and extending out over 148" (12' 4"), others fold out to 60". Only two have neat tears at the fold - plate 15 and 32. The USA considered Nicaragua before we settled on Panama for a Trans-Oceanic canal. This is the report of the Board of Engineers for the purpose of ascertaining the feasibility, permanence, and cost of construction and completion of a Nicaragua canal. The maps have cross sections of the country from Atlantic to Pacific, maps of the coast, and of Lake Managua.
