Seller: OldBooksFromTheBasement, Maryland Heights, MO, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. This VG+ book was published in 1892 by Dodd, Mead & Company; it is 8" x 5-1/4" with 208 numbered pages; if it was issued with a jacket, there is no jacket now; it has a frontis + 3--all are on coated paper and all are present and firmly attached. It also has a small drawing at the beginning of each chapter. This attractive and well constructed book is square, clean, free of edge dings and with only a tiny bump to the upper front corner which has caused very slight fabric damage. The spine ends have suffered only the slightest of bumps and the spine is the most rounded that I have seen in a long time. Front panel and spine lettering and illustrations are nearly flawless; there is a discoloration the size of a drop of water on the front panel between the feather and "by". The front panel illustration may not come across as well in a photo as in person because all the hair and skin is gilt. The book is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains and paper damage of any sort. The paper is very slightly toned and is very thick, so it is not terribly flexible but it is not brittle; end pages have a modest amount of toning. The hinges are very strong and not damaged in any way. A really beautiful and well cared for book.
