Wraps. Gruen, Chuck (illustrator). 96 p. Includes illustrations. Originally published by Coward-McCann, Inc. of New York in 1958. Excepted from The Washington Post's obituary: Flora Gill Jacobs, whose collection of antique miniatures became the Washington Dolls' House and Toy Museum and attracted visitors from around the world for nearly 30 years. Mrs. Jacobs was considered the country's foremost authority on antique dollhouses and their furniture. The author of five histories and four children's books, she wrote the first history of dolls' houses. Her latest work is the comprehensive "The Small World of Antique Dolls' Houses" (2005). Collectors called her museum, the first of its kind in this country, one of the finest in the world. The Washington museum, of which Mrs. Jacobs was founder, director and curator, was known for its miniature 19th-and early 20th-century architecture and decorative arts. Mrs. Jacobs's contribution to the hobby cannot be underestimated, said Noel Barrett, toy dealer and regular on PBS's "Antiques Roadshow." Very good in very good dust jacket. Signed by author. Signed on half-title. Reprint. Fourteenth Printing [stated]. u ndated.

Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Gruen, Chuck (illustrator). As new condition glossy color illustrated boards contained in a very good condition color illustrated dust jacket. The upper rear jacket spine edge contains a repaired 1 3/4 inch closed tear; the jacket is in otherwise fine condition. The printing number on the inner front jacket flap is blacked out but can still be read (ninth printing). Includes Dedication. Also includes a Washington Dolls" House & Toy Museum postcard featuring "the mid-century South Jersey House with Annie, as featured in The Doll House Mystery." Illustrated with black-and-white drawings. Signed, inscribed and dated (November 2003) by the author with blue pen on the blank first free front endpaper. "Strange things begin to happen in the Adams household the moment Great Aunt Eugenia's doll house arrives for Priscilla. Mysterious sounds and disappearing dolls defy even the earnest detective work of Tim, Priscilla's older brother. Priscilla begins to think that her new doll house is haunted. The appearance of an unfriendly black cat in the neighborhood at just this time adds to the mystery. Even Annie, the Adams' Siamese cat, seems mystified by "miniature ghosts" in the doll house. Just when the mystery of the missing dolls seems to be solved, stranger things begin to happen. There is excitement aplenty and some serious sleuthing before all the culprits are tracked down and the ghosts banished from Priscilla's doll house. When The Doll House Mystery was first published in 1958, it appeared in The New York Times list of one hundred best children's books of the year, and the New York Herald Tribune's Christmas list of about sixty titles. Since then, two generations of children have been diverted by this small tale - inspired by an elaborae but somewhat mysterious Victorian dolls' house in the writer's collection and her Siamese cat. The cat, Annie, who missed her twenty-first birthday by less than a month, is also the heroine of The Toy Shop Mystery." - excerpt from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Signed by Author(s).
