Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Thomas Burleigh, 1899. First Edition. Frank P. Mahony. A rare first edition of this Australian children's classic. The story of Dot, the little girl lost in the Australian bush, who is helped by a grey kangaroo, has become something of Ausralian folklore. It has rarely been out of print over the past century, appearing in innumerable editions, with illustrations by a variety of artists. Mahony's depictions of the bush give an authentically Australian air to the publication, which although published in London was 'entirely produced in Australia'. The book is internally good, with some mild foxing scattered througout, all plates are present. There is some insect damage to blue/green cloth to spine and a little on front cloth over boards. Decorated pattern endpapers a little browned. Original presentation copy in a neat hand on title page. A very good copy overall. 19 plates in momochrome by Frank P Mahony. Quarto in original binding. 114pp.No dust jacket. Photos available on request.
