The unjacketed book is fine with many superb illustrations including colour frontispiece and 16 further coloured plates. There is some spotting to the text block edges and there is an owner's inscription to the front paste down.

[1948], 200pp, first edition, 16 colour plates and wood engravings heading each chapter, original jade green cloth with gilt spine lettering, corners bumnped with a little wear, some foxing to endpapers, Denys Watkins-Pitchford used the psuedonym BB for his writing but his real name for his famous wood engravings. His books on the English countryside and particularly his two children's books, The Little Grey Men and Down the Bright Stream, were always popular and are, if anything, now even more so. Copies of the first edition of these two books are difficult to find as they must be the core to any collection of BB firsts. Size: 8vo. Fiction.

A couple of tiny, light spots to spine. Inscription in ink to front free-endpaper. Some light foxing to endpapers. Top edge of textblock is dusty and foxed. Price-cut wrapper is edge worn, torn and creased with 1" loss to top of spine (and spine edge of front panel), minimal loss to base of spine. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!
