The four leading corners a little rubbed; front panel relatively clean. The spine browned and frayed around top and base, with loss. Fore edge foxed. Internally free end papers a little toned with gift inscription written on front one. Half title more toned and title page with several foxing spots. Remaining contents unmarred save for foxing on last blank. VG-.

Four young siblings Bruce, Julia, Andrew and Deirdre Jefferson are staying in their uncle"s rambling Rectory in the South Downs when they find an injured man in a cave. The man tells them he is on the run, and they decide to hide him in a half-forgotten cellar of the Rectory.From British actor, playwright and children's fantasy author, Nicholas Stuart Gray. He often produced adaptations or continuations of traditional fairy tales and fantasy works, including 'The Stone Cafe', a re-telling of 'Rapunzel' from a cat's point of view. In the original cloth binding. With the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with minor bumping to the extremities. Dust wrapper is smart, with scattered spotting to the wrap and minor rubbing to the spine head and top edge of front cover. Contemporary ink inscription to front cover. Internally, firmly bound. Nearly all of Gray's books are surprisingly difficult to find, particularly when in the first edition and nice condition like this copy. Very scarce.
