Der Atlas wird durch drei Leitideen strukturiert: der Entwurf von Prozessen, das Gestalten von Kontexten und Konzepten als Narrative. Als eine Kombination von Bottom-up-Ansätzen aktiver Beteiligung, der Nutzung von räumlichem Kapital und den Qualitäten lebenswerter Orte stellen diese Leitideen neue Konzepte der Urbanistik zur Diskussion. Strategische und prozessuale Neuerungen übergreifen dabei Maßstäbe und Disziplinen. Ausgehend von einem architektonischen Ansatz in Städtebau und räumlicher Planung beleuchtet das Buch die Schnittstellen zwischen Forschung und Entwurfspraxis, um zu einem innovativen dynamischen Verständnis von Peripherie zu gelangen. Der Atlas wird gefördert im Rahmen des 'Hochschuldialogs Südeuropa' des DAAD.
