"A novel that most women and men will like, once they get over a feeling of irritation at the insistence of the author that the heroine is somethimg absolutely ethereal and unearthly. This is a story of a sewing girl, with instinctive genius as a designer, who came to be a college teacher's wife and widown, and later the wife of a great modiste. It is a simple story, simply told for the most part, culminating in the woman's sacrifice of her life in bearing a child out of gratitude to a husband whom she did not really love but who was kind to her." (from th 1929 review in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle).

Add to basketPaperback. Condition: new. Paperback. "Eagles Fly High: Being a Counsel to Eagles, and a Warning to Their Despoilers" is a compelling exploration of human ambition and the social structures of the early twentieth century. Written by E. B. Dewing, the narrative delves into the psychological depths of characters who strive for transcendence and the obstacles-both internal and external-that threaten to impede their flight. The work functions as a nuanced study of character and consequence, offering a "counsel" to those of high spirit while issuing a stark "warning" to the forces that seek to dismantle individual achievement. Through its sophisticated prose and keen observation of social dynamics, the book examines themes of identity, resilience, and the often-perilous journey of those who refuse to conform to mediocrity. Readers will find a rich tapestry of emotional complexity as the story navigates the tension between personal aspiration and the harsh realities of the world. As a significant piece of literary fiction from its era, "Eagles Fly High" remains a thought-provoking meditation on the nature of greatness and the vulnerabilities that accompany it.This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
