A scarce first edition of this treatise on The Earthworm and the Common Housefly with microscopic illustrations by the authors, with eight plates and 26 figures integrated with text. First edition Comprising eight letters, each detailing more specific topics about the earthworm and housefly. Written by James Samuelson, who was assisted by J. Braxton Hick. Dedicated to William Spence. With advertisements to last page and an additional publisher's catalogue bound in to rear. In a cloth binding. Externally, sound but with slight wear to extremities, marginal fading and the odd mark to boards. Front hinge slightly strained. Internally, generally firmly bound but with title page starting slightly. Generally bright but with handling marks and institutional ink stamps and institutional labels to front endpapers. With the odd slight closed tear. Good. book.
