Neil Gaiman opined that Nicholas Stuart Gray "is one of those authors I loved as a boy who holds up even better on rereading as an adult" and "The most interesting of the books I rediscovered were by Nicholas Stuart Gray, who is now unfairly forgotten, but who was, at his best, one of the most brilliant children's authors of the 20th century (The Guardian April 29 2022)".
