Tight binding, solid black boards with sharp corners, bright gilt lettering to front board and to spine strip, previous owner's name crossed out and top corner of front end paper clipped, otherwise clean, unmarked pages throughout.

Reprint, later (7th) printing, hardcover with folded map laid in, the book has a strong lean to the binding, light bumps to the spine ends and cover corners, rubbing to the cloth, and a few smudges to the spine and edges of the text block. Overall, this is a solid, Very Good copy in a Near Very Good dust jacket, which has bumps with light creasing to the spine ends and corners, rubbing with subtle scuffing to the covers, a bit of wrinkling to the front, and slight wear to the edges.

Oversized Hardcover. Condition: Good. Elephant folio, measuring approx. 16" x 22", bound in maroon cloth. Binding is quite sturdy; for all its accumulated faults, the book was made to last, and the scale and scope of its illustrations is of course astounding. Library marks to spine and interior (verso of each plate contains a small stamp). Spine backing torn at right-hand seam, with wear/fraying at spine ends; spine is darkened but gilt typeface is discernible. Moderate wear to front and rear boards, with fraying/rounding to outer corners. Although there is no accompanying odor, the pages are lightly soot-stained, and many have been reinforced or repaired toward bottom edges. International shipping will require additional postage.
