Unbound. Condition: Good. Three Edison Records (Diamond Discs), approximately 10", 80 rpm, vertical groove records. All with general wear and scuffs, though they should be mostly playable, good only, all lacking the sleeves. Includes "Where Is My Wandering Boy Tonight" by Robert Lowry, performed by Walter Van Brunt and the Metropolitan Quartet b/w "The Vacant Chair" by Geo. F. Root, performed by the Metropolitan Quartet; "Oh, How I Miss You Tonight" by Benny Davis, Joe Burke, and Mark Fisher, violin solo by Rae Eleanor Ball and piano by Dave Kaplan b/w "Broken Dreams" by Saul Crone, Nelson Chon, and Frank Westphal, violin solo by Rae Eleanor Ball, and piano by John F. Burckhardt; and "Do Something (Theme Song of Syncopation)" by Bud Green and Sam H. Stept, performed by Ermine Calloway b/w an unknown track (the label has peeled off, but we think it might be "What Did'ja Wanna Make Me Love You For?" by Dixon and Warren, also performed by Ermine Calloway per a *Discogs* entry). These are not vinyl records, nor are they shellac records, these are Edison records, their own unique type of recording media. They are about ĵ" thick, feature vertical grooves (as opposed to the horizontal grooves found in shellac and vinyl records), and can only be played with a special diamond stylus, such as those found on the Edison Disc Phonograph. They enjoyed modest popularity in the 1910s and 1920s but suffered due to Edison refusing to release music that he didn't personally enjoy. Plus, the requirement of a special stylus narrowed their appeal; but it is largely agreed that the Edison discs had the clearest quality sound of any disc recordings made acoustically at the time. While they're not the most desirable records, they are nevertheless a fascinating piece of recording history.
