Add to basketStaplebound. Condition: Near fine. First Edition. Square large octavo, unpaginated (about 25pp.), illustrated. Near fine in the publisher's silver glossy stapled wraps, printed in purple. Mild, even rubbing to wraps, and a few faint creases to spine; still sound and fresh. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by both Heaney and Mahon on the fir…st leaf above their portraits. Heaney's inscription dates from the public reading that he and Mahon gave in Belfast at the beginning of their brief tour of Northern Ireland. It reads: "For Peggy + Joe Spears, Seamus Heaney, May 23, 1977." Mahon's inscription is not dated, and reads: "For John M. [H?] il miglior fabbro. Derek M." The previous bookseller who owned this item has a notation that suggests that the subject is John Montague. The seriousness of the inscription suggests that this may be right. The Italian quotation means "the better craftsman," and was famously used by T. S. Eliot in his dedication of "The Waste Land" to Ezra Pound.
